My Genius

My Genius

Not too many people know this, but every student is a genius. A genius spanning from birth to the very time period that you are in now. According to "Awakening Genius" by Thomas Armstrong, Armstrong doesn't necessarily mean to have been blessed with the highest measure of intelligence. Instead Armstrong claims that there's a genius within everyone willing to learn, willing to ask, to wander. Armstrong has provided in his passage his very own "12 Qualities of genius", which in fact make sense. 12 basic qualities in which he expanded the meaning for, curiosity, playfulness, imagination, creativity, wonder, wisdom, inventiveness, vitality, sensitivity, flexibility, humor and joy. 12 qualities that account for the building blocks of each individual student's underlying genius.

Aliveness, spontaneity, or vibrancy, all fall under the expanded meaning of vitality."Vitality is really the essential spark of genius; the direct energy of the life force surging up into the world and making a direct impact". The energy in action in which I give is usually the positive side. I mean of course there's times when frustration emerges, but something positive always prevails. In school, I usually show some sort of spontaneity whether its being a clown, to really getting down and dirty with my class work, to flirting with the girls, then to just not being able to sit still. Some of my friends may call me confusing at times but the thing is that I never like to stick to one thing. Not in the sense that I quit other things, that I lose interest, or that making up my mind is a difficult task, but simply because I like to keep it up and about different. Keeping things with a sense of interest being abstract or weird.

Whenever I'd get in trouble in school for some act of "genius", I'd usually just slip out of it. I often give off a good vibe, I don't know if it's charm, enthusiasm, my humor, or whatever the case may be but the spirit I give the situation usually works. I remember in my old school I had headed down to my guidance counselor to talk about my transfer to Westside H.S. I had to practically wrestle my counselor to call for me, she was trying to get me to call in order to set up the interview. Not that I wasn't bright enough to make my call sound professional enough, but I had already decided to convince her to do it for me. So there we were back and forth trying to convince each other, although we can guess what the outcome was. Yep that's right I finally got her to make the call, what a relief. So she set up the interview and she told me that she knew I'd nail it. My counselor had gave me the advice to just be me, from our experiences she had already known that I had a sense of vibrancy.

I like to keep it zesty, from using intelligence, my humor, charm, that energy i give to make my day spontaneity. I never really liked the idea of making plans. Now It isn't because I can't keep them, but because it never turns out as good as would have if it just came into play. Like that one plan was just to thought out, or like the level of fun was cut dull. I sort of love when stuff just happens, like you just happen to go shopping and you run into that close friend of yours that invites you to a Halloween party. Then you end up going and it turns out to be the sickest party you've been to so far. It all sort of counts on you whether you have an awful night, a good night or a great night. The energy you give the situation depends how It'll all turn out. Whether your late or happy or sad or humorous, sometimes its the vibe you give off but that could change upon human posture and how you present yourself. That's sort of what I like to stick to, and good stuff just happens. Now I'm not giving the whole karma perspective I don't mean It In that particular way but that the energy of spirit you give off revolves around you.

Now whenever I want a great night I just stick to my level of genius, thinking about math problems relating everything to rocket science and calculating mine and everyone's next move. Just kidding of course I mean my vitality. That Aliveness, spontaneity, or vibrancy that sparks out of me In my everyday life. Hanging out with my genius crew of friends, or in class with my genius classmates. The point is I'm a genius and It took Reading Armstrong's passage for me to acknowledge this. Every student is a Genius, and now more people are aware of that.
